Linguistic Intent

So, folks, since I'm a self-declared "Aspiring Linguist" (see the 'About Me' snippet on my blog), I reckon it's high time to start posting stuff about...YOUR FACE! (Mwahaha! I can see it in my mind's eye, even now: one eyebrow raised, you're mildly unamused, slightly baffled, but beautiful. Yep. Hehe. Ha. Ha. Ehem.) Then again, somethin' tells me that's an inaccurate, illogical, and nonsensical conclusion. Hmm. Well, I guess I'll just have to settle for posting about linguistics, then. Therefore, I am hereby creating the post category 'Linguistic Lens' for that very purpose. My intent is that it will give you a peek into the world of linguistics and a small glimpse of my linguaphilia--love of language, that is. (For one brief shining moment I thought I'd created a cool new word...but then I found it already in use on the Internet. Oh well.)

As a previous post explained, I've been going through a time of waiting. I don't really know what to do with myself. I'm tryin' to figure out how I want to or how I should use my love of languages and my training in linguistics. But, in the meantime, I've decided I'm gonna review my linguistics textbooks and materials. I'm also gonna continue studying Indonesian, Spanish, and Russian. (I must admit, it's a very odd assortment of languages...but it's a true story. I've studied all three over the years, so why not build off of what's already been started?)

Additionally, I have a personal language project that I've assigned myself to work on. I'm hoping it will motivate me to brush up on linguistic methodologies, jargon, and the like. So far it's working 'cause I keep having to look up terms and such that I've forgotten. For this project, I'm working with my boyfriend to create a language program from scratch. He has the programming know-how and I have the linguistics background and language data. It's kinda experimental. We're just in the beginning stages right now but I'll try to keep you updated on our progress. I'm currently trying to re-categorize some of the data and rewrite the language rules with new and consistent symbols.

So, if you like languages too, stay tuned.

Hey Em, good on you to give yourself some assignments! It's not easy to stay disciplined in training oneself. I'll be waiting to hear more of the story of how God uses this linguistic passion and talent!
