Jack is Back

This summer Jack is back, folks! Let me elaborate. To start with, I feel like I've been listenin' to Jack Johnson a fair bit lately. (Now, I don't like all his stuff or all his lyrics, but he has a fun and soothing sound. And I do like some of his songs.) This summer: camping, forests, rushing rivers, winding roads, open fields, cows, horses, mountains, lakes, canoeing, hiking, and Jack Johnson while driving. Funny thing, it seems I tend towards his songs starting with the letter 'b.' "Better Together," "Bubble Toes," and "Breakdown" are some of my favorites.

And this, folks, is a nice segue (not to be mistaken for a segway...although I've ridden one of those before and they're nice too) to another Jack that's back this summer. This Jack is another little 'b' that I love: Bethy Boo Boppin' Baby aka Jacqueline "Jack" O'Neill. I am happy to announce that she'll be in the neighborhood for a spell. She's been known to sit in front the computer for hours, sipping tea, playing spider solitaire (or some such game), wearing a sweet, long-sleeved, plaid, flannel shirt and scrubs while composing the next great American novel. Oh, yes, that's the way to go.

Yep, she's the author of the book in which a certain infamous Jack Elias resides. This summer I've started revising the above-mentioned authorette's first book, which some of you may have already read. (We're working on a second edition of it.) And soon I will be editing the rough draft of the upcoming sequel. Never fear, dear fans, Jack's comin' back!

Also, this summer, we've started re-watching Stargate SG-1 seasons, just for kicks. Yep, we're big fans of the two Jacks of that show: Dr. Daniel Jackson and Colonel Jack O'Neill. (And who could forget Teal'c and Captain Samantha Carter? Indeed--as Teal'c would say--we love them too. Although the show lasted for ten seasons, I think 1-8 are the best.) We call the aforementioned flannel shirt our Jack O'Neill shirt because it's just the sort of thing he'd wear whilst fishing behind his house in the woods...by his pond with no fish.

And we have several over-sized knit sweaters (which we found one fine day in a thrift store--once we'd laid eyes on them, there was no turning back, we just had to buy them) that we bust out on special occasions in honor of Daniel Jackson. Yep, you betcha. "Why?" you may ask. Well, folks, Daniel is an anthropologist, amazingly skilled linguist, and SG-1 member who helps save the world countless times (Jack Bauer couldn't do better). All this equals awesomeness. The end. Nuff said. Now, in regards to sweaters, if you've seen the show, you'll know that good ol' Danny Boy is gone (sort of) for a whole season. But, every so often, he mysteriously pops in to help his buddies when they're in dire need. (But, actually, since they're in dire need quite often in this show, I suppose he resists until it's dire dire need.) And a certain off-white, knit sweater is present in all these inexplicable Daniel Jackson sightings. Interesting. (But I guess he didn't get the all-important towel memo...Or maybe he turned his favorite towel into a sweater. Hahaha! Awesome! That's it!)

Well, long story short, our lovable hero Danny is just too soft-hearted and caring to apathetically ascend or hedonistically hitchhike the galaxy for long. So, in an admirably dramatic fashion, he defies the powers that be and is just about to seriously squash the Evil 'Dirty Laundry' of a System Lord, Anubis, to smithereens, when he suddenly vanishes from the scene and isn't seen again for a while. I must say, this turn of events was unforeseen. When SG-1 does find him, poor Danny has been stripped of his 'high society' club membership, his memory, and--worst of all--his beloved sweater. What is the world coming to? But, the good news is, his memory eventually does return. And another good thing: Jackson's back--to the satisfaction of all involved (both fans and characters).

So, there you have it. Now you have a glimpse of some of the happenings of my life and insights into a few of my little doings (things that tickle my fancy). And now, folks, I'm off to edit a book...
